Mossie Begrafnisdienste het Maandag hul tiende verjaarsdag gevier en dié begrafnisonderneming gaan steeds van krag tot krag.
Hulle pas aan, brei uit, bied nuwe dienste, maar die grondslag by dieselfde – deernis vir naasbestaandes wanneer die dood intree.
Mossie Begrafnisdienste is ‘n familie-onderneming, maar met ‘n bietjie van ‘n verskil.
Mossie en sy seun Jacques staan wel aan die stuur van sake, maar Jacques se verloofde, Genene, het onlangs by die groep aangesluit as administratiewe beampte.
Jacques se twee kinders, Melzaan en Caleb, help ook uit met takies, en Mossie se vrou, Marietjie, ondersteun die Mostert-familie in hul daaglikse bestuur van dié onderneming.
Sy oudste seun, Nico, en sy vrou Natasha, is ook op die agtergrond baie betrokke by die besigheid.
Die besigheid het ook onlangs van perseel verander, toe hulle uitgebrei en ‘n meer omvattende diens begin aanbied het. Dit het onder andere ‘n kapel ingesluit. ‘n Dekade gelede, op 31 Maart 2012, het Mostert die kantoor van Doves Malmesbury verlaat om op pensioen te gaan, maar het vier maande later op 14 Augustus 2012 sy eie onderneming, Mossie Begrafnisdienste, in Truterstraat 6 op Malmesbury begin.
Ses jaar later, ná hulle hul babaskoene ontgroei het, het die onderneming na Pleinstraat 3 geskuif – die voormalige kantore van Doves Malmesbury.
Waar hulle aanvanklik in Augustus 2012 afgeskop het met ‘n personeel van 2, het hulle uitgebrei na 3 in November van daardie jaar en op 1 Februarie 2014 het sy seun Jacques, by die onderneming aangesluit. Vandat Jacques by die onderneming is, het Mossie Begrafnisdienste ook begin om hul eie programme en boekmerkies te maak.
Jacques het ook in 2018 ‘n balsem-kursus voltooi, wat deur die NFDA aangebied is.
In 2020, met die koms van Covid-19, het die tradisionele begrafnis skielik plek gemaak vir ‘n
nuwe alternatief. Een waar minder mense die diens kon bywoon, waar familie gesoek het na ‘n kleiner perseel en waar ekstra dienste soos die beeldsending van ‘n diens, die lig gesien het.
“Ons moes met al die nuwe reëls en regulasies anders begin kyk na begrafnisse en
verassingsdienste. Daar het ‘n groot behoefte ontstaan vir ‘n perseel waar ‘n klein groepie mense kan afskeid neem. Dus was en is daar steeds ‘n behoefte vir ‘n kapel.”
‘n Kapel was nog altyd deel van Mostert se visie vir die onderneming – selfs voor die intree van die Covid19-regulasies.
Ná beplanninge, moontlikhede en skuiwe, het ‘n perseel hom voorgedoen wat ideaal geskik is om van Mostert se droom ‘n waarheid te maak.
Die perseel in Dr Euvrardstraat 21, voorheen die kerkgegou van die Coram Deo-gemeente, was beskikbaar en perfek geskik vir dit wat Mostert nog al die jare wou hê.
Mossie Begrafnisdienste verhuis dan van einde Mei 2021 na hierdie nuwe perseel, waar hulle hul bestaande en ook nuwe dienste aanbied.
Dit was nie ‘n droom wat oornag bewaarheid is nie, maar het harde en toegewyde werk gekos Mostert is dankbaar vir die ondersteuning wat hy en die onderneming vanuit die gemeenskap ontvang.
Mossie Begrafnisdienste bied die volgende dienste: Verwydering, berging, diens, programme, boekmerkies, beeldsend en vele meer.
Teen ‘n minimale koste kan ‘n maatskappy ook op die TV-skerm in die ontvangs hul onderneming adverteer en kliënte oor die hele Wes-Kaap word deur Mossie Begrafnisdienste bedien.
Hul leuse is nie verniet “Dienste met ‘n verskil” nie.

West Coast District Municipality launched its Women’s Month Campaign with various internal and external activations. At the official launch of Women’s Month Cllr Maranda Schrader encouraged the women to create a legacy for future generations.
She used the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” to encourage staff to be the change in society to create a better future for all.
In addition to the internal activations the municipality’s Disaster Management and Fire and Rescue Services partnered with Emergency Medical Services to celebrate the elderly women by visiting ACVV Huis Moorrees, a retirement home in Moorreesburg. The team donated @Spekbome@ to the elderly ladies under the theme “Grow where you are planted”. The purpose of the visit was to acknowledge the women for the sacrifices they make and for the role they play in society.
Other Women’s Month activities for the month of August include a decor and themed exhibition of all municipal buildings, seed planting and nurturing competition, “Doek Friday” where the ladies will have a chance to wear innovative and colourful headwraps and a “No Handbag Day” . All these activations will lead up to a Women’s Breakfast on the 25th of August 2022.

And you don’t have to be an expert to tell the difference between a smoky, peaty malt whisky from the Hebridean island of Islay (3500 people and 9 distilleries!) and the classic flavours of honey, vanilla, and ripe green fruits in the Speyside whiskies from the north east of Scotland.

The main event, at the Lords Winery overlooking the village, will feature at least 40 Scottish whiskies and more than a few others. You can taste as many as you dare!
In addition, there will be Masterclasses on the Friday and Saturday nights, where experts will explain the subtleties of producing the malt, distilling the spirit and storing the whisky in carefully chosen casks, which can account for up to 60% of the flavour – with more samples to taste, of course!
And if that’s not enough for you, there will be wine and MCC tasting at Lords, and some of the other 50 wineries in the Breede Valley; a masterclass on making whisky cocktails; the chance to get to know Shanky’s Whip, the newcomer on the scene, and other attractions such as Allendale farm close to Lords, where sheep are milked to produce cheese.
And after all that tasting, there are the many and varied eateries in McGregor, where you can relax and enjoy outstanding food.

deur Gwendoline Kriek, Jean du Plessis, Heinrich Schreuder en Ansie Powell – links. Christiana Blom het ‘n geraamde Springbokbaadjie van Marius van Heerden 800m atleet ontvang. Hy was deel van die 1992 matrieks en is gedurende 2021 aan Covid oorlede.

ACVV MOORREESBURG maak binnekort hul tweedehandse winkel oop op Moorreesburg te Kerkstraat 18 – agter Shoprite.
Die winkel sal Dinsdae tot Vrydae van 09:00 soggens tot 13:00 middae oop wees vir besigheid.
Die winkel se hoofdoel is om fondse in te samel vir die ACVV Maatskaplike Kantoor Moorreesburg om al hul finansiële verpligtinge bietjie ligter te maak. Hulle doen ‘n beroep op ondersteuners om enige bruikbare items wat in hul huis is en in die pad staan soos meubels, boeke, breekware, linne, te skenk sodat hulle dit in die winkel kan verkoop. Met hierdie fondse wil hulle soveel moontlik mense in die dorp help met kos, doeke, hofsake en soveel meer.

Nicole Neethling, owner of food and cooking business Flour & Oil, had an incredible journey from where she grew up to where she finds herself today.
Born and raised in the farmlands of KwaZulu-Natal within a Hindu community, Neethling’s life took a few unexpected turns – from her career as a lawyer to her encounter with Christianity. She took everything she learned while honing in on her passion for interacting with people to create a business that not only connects people but also encourages them to find their ‘flour and oil moment’.
Nicole’s life was unconventional from the start. She went to a Catholic school in Durban, while being raised within the Hindu culture. After school, she went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in the field of Genetics and Biotechnology. “I wanted to be able to regenerate the eye, that was my dream then,” she says. “I paid my way through university and worked all the time while studying.”
She emphasises how this cultivated a strong work ethic and she wouldn’t have had it any other way. A smart young woman, she felt a change at the end of her post graduate year, and embarked on a postgraduate degree in law. During this time she was able to focus wholeheartedly on her studies as she was awarded a bursary.
A big dreamer, Neethling found herself in Amsterdam at the end of her law degree. “I often hear the words ‘you are either brave or crazy’ when people hear about my life, but my answer is that it can only be faith,” she says. “I didn’t have the finances for any of this, but God made it all possible.”
Upon her return Nicole was offered an article apprenticeship at a boutique law firm in Gauteng. She started practising as a patented attorney straight away and felt how her two worlds collided as the role brought her two degrees together. “It was a great time, even though my future husband was in the Western Cape.”
After two years, she returned and married her husband, Jaco. She also joined one of the most prestigious law firms in the country, complete with floor to ceiling views of Table Mountain on one side and the V&A Waterfront on the other. “I wore three-piece suits and did the whole corporate lawyer-thing. My husband and I were living a good life, but I felt this burning question: Was this it? Was this everything God had planned for me?”
This question propelled her to leave her comfortable position when their first child was born. She wanted to be at home with her firstborn and not to miss out on his life. The Neethlings took a big leap of faith and said goodbye to her monthly pay-checks and subsequent comfort zone. They moved to a small two-bedroomed apartment in Paarl.
Nicole explains the next chapter of their lives: “I came across 1 Kings 17:7-16 where the prophet Elijah is sent to a widow by God. When he arrived, the widow told him she only had enough flour and oil for one more meal. Elijah asked her to trust God and to make the meal. As it turns out the flour and oil never ran out.” This touched her deeply and made her wish for a similar miracle.
With this in mind, Nicole started cooking what she knew: authentic Indian food. The family invited people to their home for meals and conversation. “I love interacting with people – plus I was the only Indian person most people knew. We thought we could teach people how to make Indian food, the way my mom made it.” From these humble beginnings, Flour & Oil was born.
Always ready to embrace their next adventure, the Neethling family moved to Riebeek-West a few years later and is currently living in Malmesbury. Nicole highlights how choosing the simpler life has shaped how they live their lives. She enthuses how the community has embraced and supported them.
To date, Flour & Oil has hosted workshops locally at restaurants, wine farms, guest houses and in homes, and has even presented a very successful pop-up experience in Switzerland. Nicole and her cooking partner, Nolene Nel, are in awe of how the business has journeyed and made an impact on people’s lives. “My heart is for people to come sit at our dinner table and just know that they are welcome and accepted,” says Nicole.
When asked about her spiritual journey from Hinduism to Christianity, she explains that she had an encounter with God at the age of 14 when her mother took her to a Christian church. After both mother and daughter had extraordinary meetings with Jesus, they were faced with a difficult decision – either to reject Jesus and turn back to Hinduism or to leave her father’s house and the Hindu community. They chose a life with God, and so the young Nicole, her mother, and her sister, at four years old, packed a bag each and left their family home in KwaZulu-Natal.
Recalls Nicole: “As we walked out of the house my mom said, ‘Today you’ve walked out of your earthly father’s house, but walked into your Heavenly Father’s Kingdom, and you will want for nothing.’ Although people might think this extreme, it paved the way for future miracles in our lives.”
“I still only have a bit of flour and a bit of oil, but it just hasn’t run out. I really have wanted for nothing. This has been my story and I want others to have that too.”
