In gear for rally

The Western Province Rally fraternity returns to the foot of the Olifants River Mountains, but, earlier in the season, thus expecting a completely new adventure as conditions are said to be much drier.
With the sulpher yellow Disa only found in a single colony in the town of Porterville and powerful summer thermals attracting paragliding enthusiasts, the Dasklip Pass will take you to the Groot Winterhoek Reserve and now the 3rd CPMCC Porterville Rally.
With the support of Subaru Somerset West, Marshall’s Delicious Minerals, CEJ Plant Hire, Dynamic Plant Solutions, Polyplastix, Amandla Construction and Wilries Snacks, the various landowners and Porterville Tourism the Cape Peninsula Motorcycle and Car Club (the second oldest motor club in South Africa, founded in 1910) have scheduled another brilliant 8 stage and total distance of 315km event at the foot of the Voorberg. Four testing specials stages to be completed twice and these would prove testing indeed as it represents a substantial increase in stage kilometers from 2019.
Really turning the 2022 edition into a festive affair is the much anticipated appearance of the SAAF Pilatus PC7 MkII aerial display at 09h15 on Saturday 2021.
The first competing rally team will be flagged away from Porterville Showgrounds at 09h30!
Defending Western Province Rally Champions 2019 (Club championship 2020/21) Llewellyn Jones will not have his regular pathfinder Christophé Pichon as navigator in the CEJ Plant Hire 434 CPMCC S5 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2.0 4×4. Matt Köhler will jump ship from the Köhler Pac BMW 328i for this event.
Inus du Plessis and Piet Carinus celebrated their return to form with a superb second position overall in Darling and the neat 461 WBMK S4 Coastal Tool Hire BMW E36 328i is continuously being fettled to find more pace. They will be ready to pounce should any of the 4×4 brigade slip.
Cobus Edas and Terry Croy return in their Hyundai Malmesbury supported 464 CCMCC S3 Toyota Corolla RXi 1600 and they will have to step up the pace to keep Seraaj Amlay and Ziyaad Amlay at bay in the Ramlay Builders 457 S3 Volkwagen Golf MkIII GTi 2.0 8v. They unfortunately broke the limited slip differential in Darling.
Warren Köhler and Ibraheem Amlay will represent the tail happy brigade in the neat Köhler Pac 465 CCMCC S4 BMW E36 328i. For sheer pleasure of rallying this car provides smiles every second. Juneyed Edas and Reyanah Edas are brother and sister and the siblings of Cobus Edas. Now Cobus prefers rallying when his children rallies so he can only worry about his own problems! The fact that they might just challenge him for position in the Hyundai Malmesbury supported 466 CCMCC S3 Toyota Taz 1600 of secondary concern.
The rally will open with a 17.34km stage named Heuningberg and there will be no servicing of the cars before they tackle the popular 15km Middelpos stage. Please observe all Covid-19 protocols throughout this event, please keep the area litter free and respect the landowners property.
Without the farmers we do not have a sport!
And as Frank Kelly would put it “Go Hard, Stay Safe”!
